The Lakes take on a magical feel. You may experience crisp, cold, blue sky days, or perhaps temperature-inversions – where a low mist sits across the water.

Enjoy a cruise on Windermere, Ullswater, Coniston or Derwentwater. They all run a winter service and all have indoor seating and hot drinks available!

After you’ve been out exploring the beautiful scenery, rest your weary legs in one of our cosy, traditional pubs, many serving locally brewed beers.

A couple of favourites locally are the Mortal Man, high above Troutbeck Bridge with panoramic views; or the Queens Head at Troutbeck for 17th century coaching inn, with a lovely rustic feel.

Windermere, Ambleside and Bowness have scores of pubs and eateries – too many to mention. We’re sure you’ll find your favourite, so let us know!

If you love walking there’s so much choice in the winter – a still quietness, and hopefully the crunch of snow underfoot. Just dress for the weather, take a map and of course indulge in a warming hot chocolate after you’re finished!
